Resume Summary Examples (By Industry) — 2026 Edition

What is a resume summary?

A resume summary is a 2-4 sentence paragraph at the top of your resume that quickly communicates who you are professionally, what you're best at, and what you're looking for. It's the first thing a human reviewer reads — and possibly the only thing if your resume doesn't grab them.

The formula

Good resume summaries follow this structure: [Job title/identity] + [years of experience / specialization] + [biggest accomplishment or skill] + [what you're looking for].

Examples by industry

Design

"Senior UX designer with 7 years of experience designing for consumer mobile apps at scale. Led the redesign of the onboarding flow that increased Day-1 retention by 35%. Seeking a lead or principal design role at a consumer or fintech company."

What NOT to write

  • "Highly motivated self-starter seeking opportunities to leverage my skills." (Generic. Says nothing.)
  • "Results-driven professional with a passion for excellence." (Clichéd. Everyone says this.)
  • "Looking for a challenging role where I can grow my career." (Focused on what you want, not what you offer.)

One final tip

Write your summary last — after you've written everything else. By then you'll have a much clearer picture of what your strongest 2-3 points are, and you can distill those into a summary that actually represents the best of your resume.
